The K-12 Student Dashboard is part of the Guyana Digital School LMS, developed in partnership with Jain University and the Ministry of Education, Guyana. The Guyana Digital School (GDS) is an innovative educational initiative designed to provide quality learning experiences to students across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

For this project, I'm designing the student experience of the LMS dashboard. The goal is to create a functional yet intuitive interface that enables students to easily access coursework, track their progress, and engage with teachers and classmates, making their learning journey more seamless and interactive.

Designing an LMS for K-12 Students: Enhancing Learning Through Innovation

Onwards is the onboarding experience of Masai School, designed to help new students transition smoothly into their learning journey. As Masai School focuses on outcome-driven education, onboarding plays a crucial role in setting the right expectations and ensuring students are well-admitted to the course.

In this project, I redesigned Masai's onboarding process to make it more intuitive, engaging, and seamless. The goal was to reduce steps, save time by improving clarity, and create a structured yet welcoming experience for new students. By refining the user journey, streamlining key steps, and enhancing the UI/UX, this redesign helps students take the necessary steps to become a part of Masai.

I'm the lead product designer for this project. I collaborated directly with&nbsp;CEO (Prateek Shukla)&nbsp;and&nbsp;Product Manager (Kajal)&nbsp;throughout the project.

Problem 1: Lengthy Navigation and Low Retention

The previous onboarding experience at Masai School involved a long list of questions, many of which were important but not all were essential at the beginning. This made the onboarding process time-consuming and slow, creating friction for new students and increasing drop-off rates.

To streamline the experience without losing critical information, ensuring students felt welcomed and prepared for their learning journey.

Problem 2: Disorganized Dashboard Experience

Once users landed on the dashboard, the primary focus was on taking the admission test. However, the information was scattered, making it difficult to navigate. Additionally, the UI was not intuitive, and the content was spread across three separate pages, increasing cognitive load.

We structured the dashboard layout into three sections, following a 20:60:20 ratio:

The entire experience was structured into three main steps:

Step 1: Webinar Registration –&nbsp;A doubt-solving session with experts, helping users gain clarity and confidence in the course.

Step 2: MSAT (Admission Test) –&nbsp;An introductory video explained the test clearly, ensuring users understood its purpose and process.

Step 3: Onboarding Process –&nbsp;Further divided into five smaller steps, providing users with a clear sense of progress and actionable next steps.

After completing the test, if a user passed, the next steps involved document verification, onboarding to Zoom and Slack. However, these steps were not clearly structured, leading to confusion and inefficiencies in the process.

Masai Student Onboarding Process Redesigned

Masai is an outcome driven career school, where careers are sculpted. In 2022, the global recession cast a shadow over Indian organizations, and the EdTech sector felt its impact keenly. Our organization, too, faced the financial strain, we took a strategic approach to navigate the challenges.

A comprehensive analysis revealed a significant chunk of our expenses was allocated to a third-party software, Mettle, utilized for admission screening tests. In a bold move to streamline costs, we made the pivotal decision to develop an in-house tool, steering our organization towards greater self-sufficiency and financial resilience.

How can we minimize drop-offs in admission tests, enhance conversion rates, all while developing an in-house tool to reduce organizational expenses?

Our prime focus was to help aspiring software developers and data analysts (Aged between 18 to 28) take up and complete our admission tests with ease and get admitted to our courses.

I led the design for this project, guiding by a senior designer. I worked along side a Product Manager and team of Developers.

We kickstarted with evaluating the existing tool (Mettl) and other competitors used for the admission tests, in order to find out what's going wrong.

We concluded the following from our evaluation:

We conducted user interviews with two sets of target groups to get further insights &amp; to confirm our conclusions from the evaluation. The two target groups comprised of users who dropped off without completing the test and users who successfully completed the test.

We then conducted competitor analysis to identify common user expectations, interactions, and patterns within the industry that users are already familiar with.

We then began ideating on the possible solutions and defined the information architecture first by discussing with the product manager and concerned stakeholders.

Later we defined the task flow, keeping in mind the ease of navigation and efficiency at which the desired task is completed.

For documentation purpose, I have focused primarily on the task of attempting the test and viewing the result.

We then brainstormed and explored possible layouts by sketching out paper wireframes and after a few discussions with the concerned stakeholders, we narrowed down on an iteration.

For the visual design, we decided to go ahead with Masai Design System (MDS) in order to have efficiency, brand and visual consistency across our products.

Keeping our wireframes as a base for reference, we worked on the UI of the product with emphasis on brand &amp; visual consistency and user experience.

Masai School Admission Test

This case study details the design and development of an AI-powered resume builder, focusing on creating a seamless and efficient user experience for students.  My role was as the lead UX/UI designer, and the project spanned for a month.  The team consisted of me as designer and two developers.  Tools used included Figma.

Many students struggle to create effective resumes, often lacking the time, skills, or knowledge to craft a compelling document that stands out to potential employers.  Existing resume builders often involve cumbersome processes and lack the intelligent assistance to generate ATS-friendly and impactful content.  This results in wasted time, frustration, and lower chances of securing interviews.

The primary objective was to design an AI-driven resume builder that simplifies the resume creation process for students, resulting in high-quality, ATS-friendly resumes. Key performance indicators (KPIs) included:  Increased user engagement (measured by time spent on the platform and feature usage), higher task success rates (percentage of users successfully completing the resume generation process), improved conversion rates (sign-ups and resume downloads), and positive user feedback (gathered through surveys and usability testing).

User research involved conducting semi-structured interviews with 20 students, analyzing existing resume builders, and studying best practices in resume writing.  This revealed key insights such as students' desire for a quick and easy resume creation process, a preference for AI-powered suggestions, and the need for clear guidance on ATS optimization.  Based on the research, three user personas were developed, representing different student profiles and needs.  Competitive analysis highlighted the shortcomings of existing tools, identifying opportunities for a more intuitive and intelligent resume builder.

The ideation process used a combination of brainstorming sessions, mind mapping, and sketching.  Initial concepts explored different workflow structures and levels of AI integration.  Several design iterations were developed based on initial user feedback, leading to a streamlined and intuitive workflow that minimized steps and maximized the use of AI features.

Wireframing focused on creating a clear and efficient user journey, prioritizing simplicity and intuitive navigation.  Prototyping was done using Figma, allowing for iterative testing and refinement.  The visual design employed a clean and modern aesthetic with a focus on readability and accessibility.  User testing was conducted throughout the process, with three rounds of usability testing informing design decisions.  The final design featured a step-by-step guided process leveraging AI for content suggestions, formatting, and ATS optimization.

A major challenge involved integrating the AI features seamlessly into the workflow, avoiding interruptions and maintaining a smooth user experience.  This was addressed by creating a responsive and intelligent interface that provided suggestions without being overwhelming.  Another challenge was ensuring the AI generated content was accurate and consistent in style, which was addressed by rigorously testing and refining the AI models.

The final AI-powered resume builder provides a user-friendly experience from start to finish, guiding students through the process with intuitive prompts and suggestions.  Post-launch data demonstrated a significant improvement in user engagement, task success rates, and positive feedback.  User testing revealed a high degree of satisfaction with the ease of use and quality of the generated resumes.  The average time to complete resume creation decreased by 40% compared to traditional methods, and user satisfaction scores exceeded expectations.

This project reinforced the importance of iterative design and user-centered development.  The iterative process of user testing and design refinement was crucial in achieving a seamless user experience.  In future projects, I would further explore personalization options based on specific career goals and integrate more advanced AI features such as resume scoring and job matching.

The AI-powered resume builder successfully addressed the need for a more efficient and user-friendly resume creation process for students. The project’s impact is measured by the improved user engagement, increased task success rate and the positive user feedback received.  Future development will focus on expanding the AI capabilities and adding further personalization features to optimize the resume creation process even further.
